Virtual Heritage Idaho: Expanding Historic Preservation Outreach and Education Through Technology
As we look to the future, Preservation Idaho is expanding its reach and impact by adopting a story map-based approach to historic preservation. Using immersive virtual experiences powered by Esri’s ArcGIS technology, this project will visualize Idaho’s historic buildings and neighborhoods while enhancing outreach and education efforts statewide. Through interactive maps, we aim to engage new audiences, share information about our events and programs, and bring historic education into 2025 and beyond. By making history more accessible, we strive to inspire greater appreciation and advocacy for preserving Idaho’s rich architectural heritage.

Preservation Idaho received $5000 from
the National Trust for Historic Preservation
through the National Trust Preservation Fund.
This funding will allow Preservation Idaho to work with Desert Creative Group to expand its outreach and education by leveraging innovative technology and location-based intelligence to reach broader audiences. By making these virtual programs accessible nationwide, we hope to inspire other communities across Idaho in developing similar initiatives.
